Politics was behind honours snub, says OBE
Friday 2nd January 2009, 2:29PM GMT.
GUERNSEY was passed over in the New Year’s honours for political reasons, according to former deputy John Langlois OBE.
‘It is all about being politically correct and it is based more on equality than merit now,’ said Advocate Langlois (pictured).
‘Also, problems in Sark may have antagonised the Ministry of Justice.’
Advocate Langlois received his OBE in the 2005 New Year’s honours for services to Guernsey.
‘I have thought about it from my own experience. I had to fill in lots of forms about gender and ethnicity. It’s just trying to be politically correct now.’
He felt there were people in Guernsey worthy of being honoured.
‘I know people who could be nominated. It is disappointing that none of them got in, but it is not the end of the world.’
In particular, he feels the Bailiff should have been honoured.
‘Geoffrey Rowland should be applauded and honoured, not penalised,’ said Advocate Langlois.

What a load of tosh.
Why should the Bailiff receive a mention from the Queen?
He has done nothing to further meritous recognition for the UK, i.e. introduced case law that benefits the UK, or conducted a review of a case that was strenuous and impacted the UK or Crown dependencies.
You have to remember that Guernsey has for a long time wanted to drop the UK links and therefore as people always say you can’t have your cake and eat it.
I think it is in VERY poor taste to suggest someone should receive an honour – they are bestowed and vested not given for people who shout the loudest.
Get a life – or if you feel so strongly about it give your OBE back, or better still give it to Geoffrey.

Darren. You said; “You have to remember that Guernsey has for a long time wanted to drop the UK links”. Now this really is tosh.
England would love to be rid of us for the simple reason that their european relations are stressed by having autonomous dependencies. They are therefore trying to encourage us to first desire and then fight for our independance. After a reasonable effort at denying us they would then ‘reluctantly’ acquiesce, thereby achieving their objective with minimum cost.
Be very wary of anyone pro independance.

Well said Darren ! If John langlois does not like the way honours are given …give yours back as a protest!I know many people who deserve one who never ask for nothing and give hundreds of hours of their time each year for no reward.
