No target for spending review

0676611.jpgWORK is set to start on the long-awaited fundamental spending reviews within the States.

Consultant Tribal Helm has been appointed by Treasury and Resources to carry out the reviews, which will analyse the States to see how each department could save money by working more efficiently.

It is hoped the review, which will cost £350,000, will result in the re-basing of departments’ budgets.

The consultant will also seek to ask questions over service delivery and whether functions could be performed better in the private sector.

Treasury minister Charles Parkinson (pictured) said the department remained confident in the process, despite doubts raised outside of the States.

‘We have the right people on board to help us do it, we’ve got pretty strong support across the States and now it is down to the politicians and senior staff to make this happen and reap the benefits,’ he said.

Privatisation of most services means only one thing. Increase in costs.

350,000 for a review of financial expenditure?

Can anyone else see the irony in this or not?

Why don’t the States appoint their internal audit Department to conduct a Value for Money Audit across the board; oh I forgot, they abolished that Department a few years back as it was deemed to expensive…….

    What a total joke.

There are a number of people on the island who could give the answers for nothing.

Such an exercise needs the input of insiders. Otherwise the consultants will be told what departments want them to hear, and not what they should hear.

Time for a strong independent auditor. But, isn’t this what the PAC is all about?

The experience of privatisation has generallly been higher prices and reduced service.
