    Dear Shanice
How wonderful that you have an opportunity to fulfil your dreams, as its hard for us Islanders to break into high earning situations (unless of course you want to work in a bank lol) I would like to add my support to your quest as I do with all successful Islanders such as Andy Priaulx and Heather Watson, very good luck to you and if ever you would like a job I`m looking for a model for a motor bike shoot, so good luck to you

    Best wishes

But I Didnt Think It Was Nice What You Said To The Press.. *…. I Dont Know How Some Of Them Got Through*
In My Eyes Beauty Is More In Personality Than Looks And People Who Look Lovely Even Without Makeup And I Know The Girl Who Won And Shes Got Outstanding Qualities About Her..

Having read the article in today’s Guernsey Press, I would like to offer the following advice as constructive criticism and not for the sake of character assassination.

Unless you were mis-quoted by the Press reporter, comments like “I’d have thought I’d place higher” and “I don’t know how some of the others got through” (referring to the recent Miss Guernsey competition) in the public domain do not bode well for public support in your new venture. The comments regarding other models in the industry about “being a right state” only serves to highlight an ugly personality that no amount of make-up can disguise.

Whilst I appreciate that this particular industry is likely to be very competitive, I think that it was a mistake to highlight such a negative attribute which will only harm your chances.

I would agree with MT’s comments.

How could this young girl possibly have made her way into the priority of our local news? Not only is it humiliating on her part but also for the press – how can it be right to encourage this child, who is, let’s remember, barely sixteen, to expose herself merely partially clothed in suggestive, embarrassing poses for the whole island to bear witness to?

Surely instead of suggesting ‘try glamour modelling’ and ‘keep up the day job’ someone should tell this poor, misguided girl to resume her education and make a real life for herself – not one of broken dreams and false hope.

Maybe the press should find some real stories.

No votes from me – I don’t even want to look at the photos. Let me first make it clear that I have no criticism of this young lady personally, she is simply following what mainstream culture has told her is acceptable.
My criticism is firmly levelled at the Guernsey Press who have stooped to a new low – so low in fact that it is now one small step above the gutter standard of the Sun, Mirror & News of the World. Sadly for this young lady, the reality is that the majority of people who will “appreciate” this article will be lust filled men whose sole interest is to leer at her body with no care whatsoever about any potential modelling career.
As for suggesting “glamour” modelling, there is nothing glamorous about an industry which promotes the view that a woman’s only asset is her body. It is degrading and dishonours women who should be honoured, valued and respected for their femininity, not used as a source of cheap thrills.

    Response to Paul:

“Can you honestly say that that you have never had any interest in glamour or XXX then?”
No I cannot honestly say that, neither have I claimed it however that doesn’t change the fact that both degrade women. In fact, I’m thankful I have seen these things for what they really are – the cynical exploitation of women.

“Sex is natural and something that most enjoy, unless your a monk or a nun, what is wrong with geting paid for it then?”

Yes sex is enjoyable however I doubt the majority of prostitutes or porn actresses (many of whom started off with dreams of modelling) who have worked for any length of time would say they enjoy getting paid for the pleasure.

With having good edecation behind you are more likely to back you up.
I think that you should leave it a couple of years before you go into this line of work so that you are sure that this is what you want and mature enough to take the critism that will come with this career path after all you are a good looking girl and that is not going to disapear over night is it? maybe you should just wait a bit longer you are simply too young.

First of all fair play to you for trying to live your “Dream”, however you obviously don’t take it that seriously!
You say you watch Britian’s Next Top Model everyday because Tyra Banks is your Idol? Tyra Banks isn’t even on the british programme, she is the founder & a judge of the american programme.
I have to agree with everyone that you simply shouldn’t give up your day job, you are 16 years of age and I get the impression it’s not the career you want, its the attention.
If you actually watch Britians Top Model not one of the girls has the image you have, blonde, orange (not a classy orange either) or has their face plastered in make up! They are all natural!
IMHO Make-up should not be visible in black & white photographs but yours clearly is! This is obviously not all your fault but half the photographers. I am not a professional photographer but having had photographs taken myself, think that none of these photographs make a decent portfolio!
I also have to agree with previous comments which state you have nothing special about you, you are just a typical wannabe like the rest of the girls in your age group with your dream! Half of me believes you have been lead on by the likes of todays glamour girls, but please don’t think you have got what it takes!

I think this girl is pretty, but i also think she is very ordinary. She has no special features about her. I think she is wearing far too much make up, it seems she is trying to look older than she actually is, where in fact it just looks tacky. I think she should try with no make, after all to get into the modelling world that is what is required, head shots with no make up…

Fairplay to you for trying to make something of yourself, but to be honest i dont think you will get far as you just look like a typical 16 yr old wearing too much make up, a wannabe.

You asked for the publics opinion, and the majority of the comments are not supporting you, we are saying what we can see and basically it’s nothing interesting. People are not being harsh, we are being honest.

I agree with some people on here, stick to your day job love!

    hey

just been reading some comments on here and what a bunch of hater’s some people are, what we have a is young person with a bit of ambition so good luck to her at least she’s tried!!!!

people moan about youngsters being lazy but at least she is using her head and doing something about it instead of signin on and poppin a kid out like so many of the young girls on the island, maybe if people were more willing to help as i would if i was in guernsey, then Shanice could have a lovely portfolio!!

So go on Shanice at least you have a dream!!! and don’t just complain like most youngters that there is nothing to do in guernsey,

i see a resourceful young women using guernsey’s stunning scenery and companies to promote herself!!

Someone just needs to guide her on poses, lighting, stray hairs etc, which most people who aren’t trained in some form miss!!

So instead of hating why not help!!

Shanice, I think it’s great you have an ambition to become a model, however this is an extremely harsh and cut throat industry where most can only dream of making it, always have something else to fall back on, looks never last and most models are past it by their 30′s. You are only young and I hope that you take some of the more constructive comments in as there is some good advice in there somewhere. You will definitely need to leave the island to persue this career there are no real opportunities for you here. Word of advise to you, speak to more photographers and try and get a better array of images to choose from this selection is ALL GLAMOUR SHOTS with the exception of maybe ‘O’ being even mildly fashion. You need to steer clear of the ‘Nut’s’ and ‘Heat’ mags of this world and look for inspiration from ‘Vogue’ or ‘Cosmpolitan’ – Think advertising not Sex – angles and posture not pointy toes and boobs out!! Pay attention to ‘Britans next top model’! they always slay the glamour shots and are looking for versatility and high fashion you need to be a lot more edgy and less make up will achieve this (dare I say maybe even a funky hair cut!? Think about the make over days on BNTM!). To the photographer who took these shots you need to think more about your lighting – if the sun is shining on one half of her face this is not flattering, it’s too contrasty – use reflectors to bounce the light! Your composition also needs work, many shots are too far away to see detail in the model. Both photographer and model need training/advise but I hope that they continue to strive for this and get what they are looking for. Good luck.

P.S. Checked out Etienne’s photographs Shanice would do well to get him to take some shots he works well with light and could really make her look edgy and interesting – that’s what you need to stand out!

Amongst the comments is some very good advice.

Great you have a vision and where you want to go, so many do not at your age.

Detractors will always be there even if you become a super model.

Your portfolio is going to be so important, and needs to be top notch, look at magazines etc and ask yourself if your pictures measure up to the quality already out there. It will cost but if you are serious then you need to spend it.

Goodness me, i really can’t believe how nasty people can be. Here we have a 16 year old girl asking for people to help her to choose her best photo’s i don’t recall her asking to be slagged off. Do you not realise that some of these comments could turn her into an anorexic. Some of you state about the comments that she made to the press about Miss Guernsey well we don’t know for sure if she did actually say those words do we. And yet you seem to moan about what she said but feel it is ok to put her down. How many of you know Shanice, probably not many of you. Well i do know her and she is not what alot of you seem to think she is. She is an honest hard working girl she dreams of being a model she is loving and caring, she does not go out causing trouble. Yet she is being knocked by alot of you. which i think is disgraceful. I see picyures of Young girls on face book scantily clad but i don’t see negative comments left like you have done to Shanice. I think alot of you don’t like the family so have decided that because of who she is you are having a go. And as for bringing her father up about going to prison that is totally wrong, that has nothing to do with her, and to be honest he has done nothing different to what alot of people have done and are still doing. The only difference being he got sent down whereas others seem to walk free. Guernsey people really do make me sick lately at one time they used to be really caring where has that all gone. Shanice don’t take to heart all these negative comments, i saw you today with hardly any makeup on and you looked lovely ye you had a spot on your chin just like all these models they do have spots too. and as for your make up when i had mine done i was told by a reputable photographer that did them that you have to put on more make up than you would usually wear. So anyway Good luck with your dreams chick and hold your head up their maybe haters out there but there are also people out there who love you too. loads of love. Your cousin.xxxxxxxxx

Shanice I think you should use a better photographer! Most of the shots are under exposed as your face is in shadow and so no detail is shown. I know you are a pretty girl but he/she just isn’t doing you justice. You need a really stand out protfolio to get noticed and I am afraid yours is not even average.

A more accomplished photographer would really help, but having a sixteen year old daughter myself, I would advise that you get an education. Fame and fortune does not = happiness! This fascile obsession with celebrity is very sad in today’s society! I do wish you luck in whatever you decide to do.

For starters I feel that you are pretty for your age, but your age is a big issue, at the end of the day you are 16 and still growing. Women stop growing at 21 so therefore even you do not know what your body will look like in a few years.

I agree with some of the other comments that you are quite ordinary there are no special features that make me think WOW! You asked us to comment so don’t run crying if you dont like them. If you were in the UK asking for comments you would get alot worse.

I only looked on this site because friends told me too, to be perfectly honest when I seen the article in the press I choose not to read it, because i’m sick of hearing about the Watsons. (nothing personal)

Also may I suggest you try a different hair colour as you have no individualty compared to your sisters. It also looks quite fake even though I know its not.

I wish you well its good to be passionate about something but I suggest to try in your twentys as your body and features have not stopped growing yet. Your comments about the other contestants were well out of order no one will respect you for thinking your better than them, get over yourself!

Honestly Shanice, can’t you see what a fool you have made of yourself? You have a lovely body and good on you for having ambition but to flaunt yourself indecently on a newspaper website, isn’t that a bit extreme?!
To be really beautiful there are certain things you should keep hidden about yourself and share them only with people whom you love.I think after seeing these it might be difficult for a man to really respect you, I know I wouldn’t be able to knowing the rest of the Island and seen you in your lingerie.

Shanice my love, you haven’t got a hope in hell and I will tell you why. You are too young, you have a bad attitude towards the other competitors and you do not have much in the way of education behind you. That doesn’t bode well love. The young woman who did win Miss Guernsey was stunning. She has had a portfolio done by the best photographer on the island. It did not come cheap I can tell you and whoever did these pictures for you must have been very cheap if he/she charged at all. Miss Guernsey has done alot of modelling for top class fashion magazines etc. but you don’t see her flaunting herself all over the internet. It’s not a good look and gives off entirely the wrong image. You are going to get nothing but perverts interested in these pictures. I know your mum. I used to work with her and she is a lovely, caring woman. I hope she can manage to talk you out of this idea. It will only lead to disaster. Take it from one who knows. I am disgusted with the way people are bringing your family down and with some of the horrible comments being made here. What’s wrong with you people! Shanices family have nothing to do with any of you but Shanice, displaying pictures like this hun are only going to bring out the nasties, they have nothing better to do with their sad little lives but try and belittle a young girl who really hasn’t done anything wrong, the only problem is the bad advice that you have been given. So stop being nasty Guernsey. I can’t believe you and am beginning to lose all hope in this island and ashamed to say I was born here. The sooner I leave the better. No need for this nastiness.!!!. Good luck Shanice but not in this business please. You WILL regret it. x

We find it quite funny how people are telling you what to do, e.g. worry about your education first, and the quality of the photos is rubbish…since when does everyone know what’s good and what’s not..it’s funny when people think they know best.

I am a fan of BNTM and ANTM. So some more constructive criticism, I would say tone up all over but look at the thighs, don’t forget your neck in the photos. Some shots show good leg length but make your upper body look short. You are only 16 please get a photographer who will photograph you properly some of these shots done correctly would still look nice but less slutty, and get someone who is good with makeup remember less is more! I would soften down the bleached blonde look it may be natural but if you watch the programme they won’t go for it. Get some warmer colours put through. Go for it if you want to, catalogues always need petite models but I doubt petite models make catwalk, try but don’t set your heart on it.

I’m not having a pop at Shanice. Re-read my comment a few comments above. This is the forum for topical debate, not an opportunity to degrade and dishearten the poor girl. Modelling is a hard world – I have worked all over the world hiring models, and it’s really really tough. Shanice has been brave to put herself in this position, but I think it has been ill-advised, the portfolio she has got is pretty unusable in the modelling world (I have looked at 1000s of portfolios). I could go on and I think you get the point. Good luck to you Shanice, but you will get evil comments from small community folk anywhere in the world. I have never seen you in the flesh as I live overseas now (that’s the point of the portfolio to an ad or promotions person). My main comment, to stear the debate back, was that the GP has been irresponsible and lacking in integrity and accountability in its use of Shanice to create a story when there isn’t one, just to fill column inches. She is still a child remember. In short, shame on the GP.

Shanice follow your dream, bear in mind, however, there are 100s of girls who will kill you to get the next job, so be tough and get your contacts, portfolio and direction straight before you go any further (some of the “portfolio” shots you have at the moment are fashion but others are for ‘body’ work I would think). You need a close-up head and shoulders shot (studio and outdoors with good light with a decent photographer) and a full-length body shot (standing straight) and anything else is a bonus (booking agents will look at your face for about 3 seconds to decide if he’s going to short-list you). If you are beautiful as some of the positive comments have suggested you will do well, who knows what area you should venture down, only you know that, but you don’t need the GP to create mediocre little promotions, using you as the USP, to sell papers. Protect yourself.

But personally i think you should go back to school it is important to get ur GCSE’s n A-levels nowadays or a course at the college of fe would also be beneficial incase things fall through.

Some of the things you sed in the paper could also be very hurtful n ur just stereotyping urself as a pretty girl with no personality. So try not to say things like that in the future.
