GUERNSEY’S oldest golf club has birdied the credit crunch.
And the man who is being singled out as most responsible for the healthy financial situation it now enjoys is appropriately the Royal Guernsey Golf Club’s latest captain, John Bihet.
Mike Vaudin, who has started a three-year stint as the Royal Guernsey president, was gushing in his praise for the new man in the big chair in the Royal bar.
‘I can think of nobody more deserving to be captain,’ said Vaudin of the man whose financial skills have put the club back on course when some considered it was heading for the deep rough.
‘He’s put real work into the club over a long period of years,’ added Vaudin, who says he starts his own stint at the head of the club with the knowledge that the Royal is in great shape.
‘When John was the financial secretary, there was no doubt about it, he put the finances in such good order that it laid the foundation for the ongoing success of the club as a members’ club.’
