25 AFM jobs are under threat
Thursday 15th January 2009, 2:29PM GMT.
UP TO 25 staff at Amalgamated Facilities Management are facing redundancy, the company confirmed yesterday.
Having previously denied, when contacted by the Guernsey Press on Monday, that any jobs were in danger – AFM has now admitted that the building work section of its business is set for closure, which could affect more than a quarter of its workforce. AFM bosses announced that the company planned to restructure its operations in order to focus more closely on its core service of facilities management.
Discussions with the staff began yesterday, with a meeting for the group who could face redundancy organised for next week.
Mark Palfrey, AFM’s chairman, said it was only the general building work and related tasks area of the business that was unlikely to continue. ‘The market for our facilities management services is strong in Guernsey and we are very positive indeed about our continued success in this area,’ he said.
‘So, we have decided to restructure the business in order to focus on that service, which means some of our current activities including general building, insulating, tanking and specialist-coating tasks won’t be continued.’
AFM currently employs 95 people in the island and Mr Palfrey said there were a number of options to be discussed with those workers facing redundancy.
