Shooters withdraw

ANOTHER Guernsey team has abandoned plans to go to the Island Games in Aland.
Mick Le Pelley, the president of the Guernsey Clay Target Shooting Club, yesterday confirmed that they will not be sending a side to the biennial event.
It follows the island men’s basketball team’s decision, which was exclusively announced in the Guernsey Press last week, not to go.
‘Unfortunately I had none for a full team – I couldn’t get anyone to go,’ said Le Pelley.
‘It’s very disappointing for us as a club as we’ve always supported the Island Games. It’s not all done and dusted, but I’ve told them [the Guernsey Island Games Association] that we couldn’t get a team.
‘It’s very, very disappointing but you can’t force them to go.’
Originally they planned to have 16 shooters compete but this fell down to just three due to a lack of interest and then finally none.
