Boss denies claims of using bullying tactics

A COMPANY boss at an employment and discrimination tribunal denied he had told an employee to sign a new handbook or resign.

Ian Carse, managing director of Spellbound Holdings Ltd, trading as Bougourd Ford, refuted the claim from former employee Neil Forman.

Mr Forman, a motor vehicle technician who left the company in June, claims he was a victim of constructive dismissal. His main grievances were his dissatisfaction with a new employee handbook which staff were asked to sign and Mr Carse’s refusal to let him use a company van to move some furniture.

Mr Carse denied Mr Forman’s allegation that he had said, ‘If you don’t want to sign then you know where the door is’, at a wrap-up meeting with staff about the contents of the new handbook.

‘I didn’t say that and I’m very aware of how emotive that could be, so I was careful not to say it,’ he said.

Mr Carse was one of five witnesses called by the respondent, none of whom could recall such a comment being made.
