ELIZABETH COLLEGE’S Year 8 football side have made their way to the regional stages of the English Schools’ Football Association National Minute Maid Under-13 Cup.

The Guernsey champions got the better of Victoria College 3-1 in the Channel Islands final at the FB Fields, Jersey.

‘Certainly we deserved to win it as we were the better side,’ said the College’s coach Gary Cousens.

‘They had a good period in the first half when they did score and then we really kicked on in the second half and had a lot of chances. It was a job well done and well deserved.’

After the Jersey team took the lead, the visitors hit back through Sam Hale and Fraser Le Tissier, who scored twice to ensure that College progressed for the first time past the Channel Islands stage in the competition.

Going into the south-west group, the draw for the next round will held at Fulham’s Craven Cottage ground on Tuesday 27 January.

The draw will have to be played before Saturday 7 February.
