Waste inquiry ‘misconstrued’

0613759.jpgTHE department in charge of waste is concerned about people attempting to use the Longue Hougue planning inquiry to move the site of a waste plant.

Three of the eight representations received support using the Mont Cuet area instead and only Public Services has come out backing the current approach endorsed by the States.

The planning inquiry is taking place to allow the urban-area plan to be revised for any type of waste plant to be built at Longue Hougue, in line with the States resolution.

It will be for the planning inspector to decide whether submissions backing Mont Cuet instead can be given any weight.

‘Some people are confusing what’s happening with this planning inquiry, thinking they can reverse the previous decision as well,’ said Public Services member Tom Le Pelley at the department’s open meeting as the Waste Authority.

The department was keen not to be seen to be interfering in the process, but appeared equally concerned about misconceptions.
