Where was consultation on runway plans? ask airport neighbours
Monday 19th January 2009, 11:30AM GMT.
PEOPLE living near the airport are frustrated by the lack of consultation over plans to improve the runway.
More than 60 of them, mostly from the area, filled St Peter’s Community Centre on Saturday to discuss the issue. The meeting was called by a group of concerned residents.
One member, Steve Fell, believed that a meeting was needed.
‘The purpose of this meeting was to raise awareness of what the Public Services Department is doing,’ he said.
‘We don’t feel we have been consulted over this issue. Rather they have just told us what they are going to do.’
There was strong feeling that a planning inquiry was needed before work started.
The proposed £85m. plans for the airport are on hold after a sursis [delaying motion] in December was approved to allow time to look into alternative options.
The runway plans will next be put to the States in March during a capital spending priorities debate.
