A week after Le Sauvage’s 106, Martyn Desperques (pictured) was looking at a possible 140 when, with just one red left and perfectly placed on the pink, a kick left the Chirpers captain rooted on 99.

The break sealed a 9-3 win for the Chirpers over Ex-Service Winkers that ultimately closed the gap at the top of the table by a point, but a greater margin of victory was denied them by Colin Gilbert and Brett Gallienne opening a 2-0 lead for the basement team.

Graham Peel and Ian Platt both recovered to post 2-1 wins, the latter aided by a break of 53, after which Desperques had to do the same after Andy Travis had taken his first frame 60-29. Adrian Holley produced three consistent frames in amassing 195 points to beat Roscoe Cloarec.

Gremlin Galacticos’ lead is now four points after defeating La Villette Gremlins 8-4.
