‘Road closed’ a prank

A road closed sign was placed at the western end of Les Baissieres, Castel, over the weekend.

Morning rush-hour traffic was forced to detour around the closure, leading to queues in Rue du Friquet.

The Environment Department and police were baffled because no order had been made to shut it.

‘There was no closure at all,’ said a traffic department spokesman.

‘Luckily, the sign was spotted quite early by a member of our staff, who removed it. However, it did cause quite a bit of disruption.’

The department does not know where the sign was taken from.

‘They might think it was harmless fun, but people need to realise that it is an offence to tamper with road closed signs,’ he said. ‘It is very disruptive.’
