MAKING the most of the handicap, Quarter Tonner Extension took the race victory in the first event of the 2009 Heritage Group Frostbite series.

Organised by the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club, this popular winter racing series attracted 17 yachts to the start line just off Castle Cornet for Saturday’s morning race in the Little Russel.

The race is one of a series of six held over the winter period for both racer and cruiser classes, demanding skill and determination in what are often cold and windy conditions.

Although cold, the weather was kind on this occasion however, with a gusty force four/five wind from the southwest and some bright sunshine to encourage the 85 or so crew members taking part.

Both classes started together, a clean start with most boats getting over the line close after the gun and all heading south to Anfre Beacon, the first mark.
