Section of Cobo Coast Road subsides
Wednesday 21st January 2009, 2:29PM GMT.
COBO Coast Road was closed after a small section opposite The Rockmount subsided.
The void developed last month and the road had sunk by a couple of inches.
The Public Services Department’s head of transport services, Peter Tidd, said it needed to dig up the road before it could assess the problem properly.
‘We can see that it is not as serious as first thought, so we are quite relieved.’
But it is going to take time to repair.
Ronez needed eight tonnes of concrete to fill the hole so the repair to the road surface started later than expected and it will not reopen until tomorrow evening.
It is thought that the problem has been caused by high tides and rough weather which has washed some of the sand and concrete from under the road.
