‘Union official stormed out of meeting’

Thursday 22nd January 2009, 2:29PM GMT.

0607545.jpgCLAIMS of inappropriate behaviour have been made against Guernsey’s leading union official at an employment and discrimination tribunal hearing.

Unite regional industrial organiser Ron Le Cras (pictured) was assisting motor vehicle technician Neil Forman, who claims he was constructively dismissed by Spellbound Holdings, trading as Bougourd Ford.

Jersey-based business advisor June Summers-Shaw told the hearing at Les Cotils how her company, Clear Concepts, was engaged by Spellbound to oversee the introduction of a new handbook for employees.

She was asked to set aside two days to meet Mr Le Cras and the then Bougourd Ford shop steward, Roy Bougourd, to go through the draft handbook ‘line by line’ as part of a consultation process.

She and a colleague flew from Jersey and booked an overnight stay but she said Mr Le Cras walked out of the meeting after barely 30 minutes.

But Mr Le Cras yesterday denied he had been angry.

‘We left the meeting because we felt there was no point in staying if they were not going to give us the information we had requested,’ he said.

my first thought on seeing the headlines on this story was that it is a “beat up” against the union official and worker concerned.

now having read the full article I see nothing that will change my first assessment of the head lines its a beat up….

Having dealt with these so called business advisers though the Australian Trade Union movement we have discovered it a ploy these people often use to shut down a meeting when they do not want to give information concerning the changers in the work place.

Further, as in this case it makes their side seem reasonable in what ever tribunal they drag the worker though….I give my full support to the worker and the Union Official, workers of the world unite!

Its about time that Ron le Cras got his comeuppance.
I can qualify that his temper tantrum at this tribunal is a typical reaction when things do not go his way.
If this is the sort of person that unite put in charge then I am ashamed to be a member of this union. What can be done about it? The PSE tribunal was a joke and now this.

You are completely wrong. Crunch is a very patient and decent bloke. Highly competent at his job and the point that is being made is the fact that June Summers-Shaw was dictating that he doesn’t know the basics wording of a simple handbook.

Red Ron strikes again, trying to justify his position.
I am all for workers rights, however Ron’s constant attitude and hard-nosed way of dealing with people is doing his union no good at all.
Look how he was responsible for bringing the airport to a standstill last year.
With him at the helm of the union the whole Island could suffer many problems, which need not get out of hand so quickly.
You are there to negociate Ronald.
Not to go off on one when you do not get your own way. Just behave.

In response to the comment left by Norman on 1st Feb 2009, I have been friends with an Airport Firefighter for many years now and know for a fact that from 12.45pm onwards the drop in Airport category was not due to sickness it was in fact due to staff shortages. The Airport Fire Service are currently short staffed by three men (not sickness) so I suggest you get your facts right before criticising them and suggesting someone should be sacked.
Whether or not the drop in category was due to sickness or not, do you not think that the Airport should have in place some sort of provisions to ensure they can maintain category especially as they have been ‘talking’ about the potential problem for the past two years.
