Traffic disruption ruining business says fishmonger

CONFUSING road signs have caused a 50% drop in sales at one St Peter Port fishmongers.
A major resurfacing programme by Public Services Department contractors at the South Esplanade is causing traffic disruption along The Quay.
‘It does put people off coming down here,’ said Peter Shrive (pictured), manager at Seafresh Fishmongers on Castle Emplacement.
He said he had been inundated with calls from people asking if they could get through.
‘Everything says it’s closed, that it is a dead end, but it isn’t. People see that and don’t bother coming up,’ he said.
Traffic is two-way down what is normally the only entrance to the Emplacement.
Mr Shrive said he understood that the work had to be done but wanted notices up stating that it was business as usual for them.
As all the fish is freshly caught and supplied, all unsold stock has to be thrown away.
