Interference key to car lock troubles
Saturday 24th January 2009, 9:29AM GMT.
MOTORISTS are finding themselves locked out of their cars because of interference – and it could get worse.
Past hotspots have included the North Beach car park, according to a local expert.
He has spoken about the problem after Jersey residents called for someone to help solve the mystery of why they could not get into their cars in St Ouen.
Links Communications owner Richard Bird knew of about half-a-dozen instances a year in which people in Guernsey have been locked out of their vehicle because the key fob would not work.
He occasionally gives advice about what could be causing it and, sometimes, the only solution is to park elsewhere.
‘The problems are numerous and will increase as we get more and more radio equipment and, in particular, low-energy lights, which will be an electronic plague for many years to come,’ he said.

This happened to me on the North beach and I can recommend the following solution… catch the bus home! It’s more inconvenient than you might think.

We all know the bus is inconvenient. That’s why we use our cars. I have a solution for anybody that does experience the above problem.
Unlock the vehicle manually using the key and read the handbook that comes with every vehicle.
It will contain info on how to reset the ECU. Take these steps and forget about the buses.
In a lot of cases simply disconnecting a battery terminal for a minute and then reconnecting it will be adequate to get most on their way.

You could just be old skool and use the bit of metal sticking out your radio transmitter.

It must have been mayhem down there !!!….imagine SIX cars a year with a dodgy fob!!!…its an outrage !Did the press and radio not issue warnings to motorists telling them not to enter this area until the problem was solved?.
