THE men’s football tournament at the Aland Island Games will be the biggest yet.
Word has come out of the Games’ headquarters in Mariehamm, the Scandinavian island’s capital, that a whopping 17 teams will take part.
The announcement has certainly delighted the new Guernsey men’s coach Tony Vance (pictured).
‘It’s great news,’ he said.
‘Obviously it depends on how they are going to sort out the groups but it’s going to be a busy schedule. It’s fantastic that they’ve got so many.’
The chairman of the Guernsey Football Association Mark Le Tissier also welcomed the news.
‘We weren’t expecting that number of teams,’ he said.
‘That’s fantastic news that there are more teams than ever before. I’m sure that the coach [Vance] will be pleased that this will be the biggest ever.’
