Early hitches but buses kept to time
Monday 26th January 2009, 2:29PM GMT.
THE Crown Pier overcame a problematic start to its first day as a temporary bus terminus on Saturday.
A sign near the Weighbridge clock tower wrongly suggested that drivers had access as far as Castle Emplacement but they found there was no southbound access to The Quay.
A steady flow of traffic was forced to do a U-turn at the Crown Pier before the sign was eventually changed at about 11.30am.
‘We had our teething problems, but as a temporary bus terminus it worked well and services ran on time,’ said Island Coachways director Ben Boucher.
‘We do need all of the space that has been allocated to us and hopefully it will be a success.’
The pier will be a temporary bus terminus until 8 February during road repair work in the South Esplanade area.
Vehicles were supposed to have been moved from the Crown Pier by 5.30am on Saturday but seven remained when the first bus left the station.
The last had been moved by 10.30am.

Was that the only hitch.
I think the signs were very poor and didn’t actually say you can still go up Fountain Street so people were blocking the roundabout by going up St Julians Avenue.
It was bumper in all directions in late afternoon.
