New Bouet homes a foot on the ladder
Monday 26th January 2009, 11:30AM GMT.
ISLANDERS struggling to buy a home could get a leg-up with a new partial ownership development.
The Guernsey Housing Association will make 25 properties at Hougue a la Perre, on what was formerly the Grand Bouet bus garage site, available in the spring.
There are 20 flats – 12 with one bedroom and eight with two – and five houses. Four are two-bedroom and one is single-bedroom.
Guernsey Housing Association chief executive Steve Williams (pictured) said the new homes were much needed.
‘This is a great opportunity for local people to own a brand-new home if they cannot afford to buy on the normal housing market,’ he said.
‘We would encourage any-one in that situation to contact us to see if we can help.’
The scheme allows people to buy a share of the property and rent the remainder.

Seems like a good idea, but you need a mortgage to buy part of it, then rent the rest? ISnt that going to end up more expensive? Or is the idea that you dont need a mortgage? I assume the people will eventually own the whole house.
