STUDENTS were out in force last night as the annual Rotary Youth Speaks competition attracted its biggest entry.
Eight teams took part in the intermediate age 14-16 category and three entered the senior 16-18 category.
Blanchelande Girls’ College won the senior trophy and the Grammar School picked up the intermediate and overall trophy for best presentation.
The Grammar team will represent Guernsey in the district finals in the UK in mid-February.
The topics covered ranged from fame in the 21st century to the effects of modern culture on literature.
Rotary Club of Guernsey Youth Opportunities chairman Nigel Dorey said he would have hated to have to pick a winner.
‘All the teams have been fantastic. There’s been a good lot of humour as well, which has kept the audience entertained,’ he said.
Youth Speaks is a public speaking competition in which teams of three address an audience on a topic of their choice.
