LT-GOVERNOR Sir Fabian Malbon was a guest on HMS Daring yesterday when it anchored in the Little Russel.

The first of the Royal Navy’s Type 45 destroyers paid a short visit to the island on its way to dock at Portsmouth for the first time.

‘We had a very good morning on board,’ said Sir Fabian.

‘She’s a splendid ship and we’re really lucky to have been given the privilege of taking on Daring as our affiliation.’

The ship sailed from Scotland to visit Guernsey after months of sea trials.

The affiliation helps to strengthen ties with local communities and also benefits organisations such as naval associations, youth groups and charities.

Sir Fabian said the ship, with its crew of 191, looked great in the Little Russel.

‘I think the enthusiasm on the ship is very high for the affiliation,’ he said. ‘I think we’ll be seeing a lot of them in our waters.’

As for targetting a cricket ball at 250miles; I’m not sure using warships to help the English Cricket game is allowed. That’s cheating!!
