ON the steps of the Royal Court yesterday, a colation of island businesses lobbied the States to commit to full sewage treatment.
D’Arcy Brimson of Island Rib Voyages delivered a letter to Public Services minister Bernard Flouquet as he arrived for the States debate.
The group also wants the Assembly to set a timescale for the investment.
This week’s debate will include a report detailing the level of a wastewater charge his department plans to bring in – some of which could be used to fund preliminary work for research.
Mr Brimson’s petition, which insists on a States investment in full sewage treatment, was put together and signed by a group of island businesses dependent on clean coastal waters.
These include Island Rib Voyages, Guernsey Surf School, Sail or Surf Shop, Rip 101, Freedom Surf Shop, Guernsey Sea Farms and Guernsey Surf Club.
Mr Brimson said Guernsey has a stunning coastal environment, which is not being properly protected by the government.
