ST ANDREW’S PTA yesterday made a last-ditch effort to persuade the States to vote to keep the school open.

Members of the PTA, including chairwoman Maria Tostevin, were outside the chamber yesterday morning as deputy Education minister Allister Langlois arrived.

Mrs Tostevin handed him a petition signed by nearly 3,000 islanders, showing their support for saving the school.

‘We feel very positive about the debate. We have almost 3,000 signatures, which shows the huge public support for a campaign we are passionate about,’ said Mrs Tostevin.

The group has been collecting signatures online for about a year, but has recently upped the ante as the debate approached.

‘We’ve collected 1,200 signatures in just two weeks,’ said Mrs Tostevin.
