AN ARMY officer from Guernsey has finished joint third in a national competition.
Lt Naveen Rahman, a former Ladies’ College student, now 25, joined about 180 fencers from across the country at Aldershot’s School of Physical Training to take part in the women’s epee competition.
She narrowly lost out in the semi-final to the eventual winner of the tournament, but emerged as the highest-placed military competitor.
Lt Rahman thought she could have done even better if she had had more time to train.
‘I’m quite pleased with the result, considering that I haven’t done as much fencing as I would have liked in the past year due to work commitments,’ she said.
She has been fencing for 13 years and is a former British number eight, as well as an army and inter-services champion.
