Le Tissier’s worry
Friday 30th January 2009, 2:30PM GMT.
MARK LE TISSIER has admitted to fears that no one may turn up to the Easter football tournament.
It is understood that the Guernsey Football Association has invited Southampton Reserves, an Exeter City side and England Universities to take part in the inaugural competition.
However, GFA chairman Le Tissier (pictured) said that they have yet to have a definite yes from any of the teams.
‘It’s starting to become a worry,’ he said. ‘People need to confirm.’
One reason why the teams have yet to put pen to paper is because of the recession that has gripped the UK.
The players and clubs are thought to be struggling to find the money to pay for the flights over to Guernsey and for the accommodation while here.
‘I’m sure the credit crunch is having an effect on people,’ said Le Tissier.
The Guernsey senior team are crying out for competitive matches ahead of the Muratti on Sunday 3 May.
