Guernsey RFC 10, London Irish Amateur 5
THE low score was indicative of the few chances created on Saturday at Foote’s Lane, but Simon Sharrott was not in the least concerned.
The fact that his side had seen off London Irish Amateur was the most important fillip for the Guernsey captain.
‘A win is a win, and this was a much-needed win,’ Sharrott said.
‘I am very proud of the boys and the way they stuck at it. We have to use this as a platform now. We have got to get out off the bottom half of the table.’
The match was frantic throughout, but the high energy levels were not coupled with a huge amount of composure as both sides were guilty of too many handling errors.
In fairness, with the exception of a piece of individual magic from visiting full-back Maowi Marakalou, which produced their solitary score, Guernsey’s strong defence was rarely troubled and the hosts did not look in any danger of losing, despite a brief wobble into injury time.
