NRG job threat ‘is not a result of credit crunch’

Monday 2nd February 2009, 2:29PM GMT.

0225753.jpgTHE former managing director of NRG International is saddened by news that the company’s local staff members look set to lose their jobs.

NRGi’s Japanese parent company, Ricoh, is expected to amalgamate its local arm into operations in the Netherlands, leaving the majority of its 60-strong Guernsey staff jobless.

Philip Duquemin (pictured) , who was managing director from 1995 to 2007, said they did not deserve such a fate.

‘I had the privilege of working 22 years with some extremely capable and wonderful people and my thoughts are with them,’ he said.

They are still in a state of limbo, he said. ‘It is a shame that the staff who made NRG such a successful company are still awaiting details from the owners Ricoh of what it means to each of them.’

He said he had seen the move coming.

My thoughts are with the staff in Guernsey who were some of the most professional within the old NRG Group.

But at the same time, anyone who worked for NRG/Ricoh knew this would eventually happen. I guess this is why the management got rid of Phil because they knew that he would never accept the closure of the Guernsey office
