ISLANDERS are facing another day of travel chaos as more snow fell overnight.
Guernsey came to a standstill yesterday as more than four inches of snow covered the island.
Just over an inch fell overnight and snow showers are likely today – but are forecast to turn to sleet or rain later.
For the second consecutive day, all island schools will remain closed.
The Education Department said it had taken the decision in the interests of the safety of children travelling to lessons.
A further decision will be taken later today whether they will open tomorrow.
States Works general manager Nigel Dorey said teams were out at 5am today checking the most hazardous roads.
‘We are ready to go with the gritters but haven’t been able to deploy them yet. The snow is too fresh,’ he said.
In the UK, rock salt is used to melt ice but locally gravel is the only option.
