Rare falcon dies after being shot

A RARE bird of prey has been shot dead locally.
A male peregrine falcon was found lying in Braye Road, Vale, on Saturday morning after it had been hit twice.
The bird was collected by the GSPCA and rushed to the Vetcare Centre in Castel.
Despite efforts by vet John Knight, the bird could not be saved because one of its lungs was punctured.
GSPCA director Jayne Le Cras was saddened that someone had decided to take a potshot at the creature.
‘They are beautiful birds and they do a wonderful job with controlling vermin,’ she said.
The type of falcon is very rarely seen over the island.
