Aurigny wants to be paid for disruption

0671139.jpgSTATES-OWNED airline Aurigny will be seeking compensation over the weekend’s disruption at the airport.

It had to fly 230 of its passengers between Guernsey and Jersey to ensure they could travel to and from the UK and 350 of its passengers in total had their travel plans disrupted.

Managing director Malcolm Hart (pictured) put the cost of that at £14,000 and said it would be seeking compensation.

He refused to speculate about the cause of the issue because he said not enough information was in the public domain.

‘But we believe that it is vitally important that it is resolved as soon as possible before it impacts any further on the airlines and Channel Islands travellers,’ he said.

Flybe general manager market development Ian Taylor said the disruption on consecutive weekends appeared to show either a lack of competency from airport management or a lack of desire to resolve the issue.

‘For me it’s terribly sad, from the passengers’ point of view it’s frustrating and it really has descended into a farce,’ he said.

I think Aurigny has been compensated handsomely already by the taxpayers. Without expecting even more from the very people that has floated the company for so many years.

I think Mr Hart is having a bit of a laugh surely.

The problem at the Airport is not down to the Airport Management their hands are tied. It’s the Civil Service Board who have the repsonsiblity to resolve the issue on the States side.

We have always prided ourselves on our communications and we cannot afford to have our reputation tarnished by being unable to ensure our airport is operating when it needs to be.
The airlines should be compensated, but it is more important to resolve this dispute.
We need to know exactly how this came about, who is responsible, and to be able to guarentee that this will never happen again.
