THE Guernsey Football Association has denied that they are stalling in naming where the 2009 Muratti Vase final will be held.

‘We’re close to finalising it,’ said GFA chairman Mark Le Tissier yesterday, while refusing to speculate as to which ground will stage the game on Sunday 3 May.

Since 2003, whenever Guernsey has hosted the biggest sporting event in the Channel Islands, it has been played at Foote’s Lane.

But there have been criticisms that the ground, which is primarily an athletics facility, is too open with a running track between the pitch and the supporters, leading to a lack of atmosphere.

There have been calls for it to return to Bels’ home ground, the Track, which traditionally hosted the fixture previously.

Speaking after an English FA meeting in Birmingham yesterday, Le Tissier said a decision was imminent.

‘The process is still ongoing and the decision will be made at the next board meeting on 10 March.’
