A NOMINEE for the Awards for Achievement unsung hero award was rushed to a UK hospital on Sunday night.
Janet Bran, 69 (pictured), started suffering after she slipped on mud on Saturday.
She was flown to the Wessex Neurological Centre at Southampton General Hospital after she was diagnosed with a subdural haematoma – blood between the brain and skull.
Her husband, former deputy Tony Bran, said she had undergone a three-and-a-half-hour operation early on Monday.
Doctors successfully drained the blood clot and Mrs Bran said that his wife was awake and recovering from the anaesthetic.
Mrs Bran was nominated for the award after teaching music voluntarily in the island for 52 years. She is also the conductor of the award-winning Les Chansonelles choir.
She had gone to the doctor and had been told it was concussion. Her condition became worse on Sunday before she was flown out to Southampton.
Mr Bran, sons Tim, 44, Chris, 40, and daughter Carrie, 36, went to Southampton and were at her bedside.
