De la Rue and Renaud crowned

THE Guernsey Club de Petanque Winter Doubles ended six weeks of league competition with a pulsating two-game finals night.
It was zero degrees on the thermometer, but it was red hot on the terrains as each team faced their similarly-placed team from the other league.
The top clash of the event was between the winners of the two leagues in the Premier Division, Seb Renaud (pictured) and Geoff de la Rue with a league record of 11 wins from 12 games, versus Alex Mauger and Fred Wallnofer with nine wins from 12.
The opponents know each other very well having played against and with each other over many years.
The allocated terrain gave no advantage to either team, so it was all down to form on the day and to who was the most hungry to win.
