‘Most travel insurance excludes UK’

THE Association of Guernsey Travel Agents has recommended that islanders check that their travel insurance covers trips to the UK because the reciprocal health agreement will no longer protect them.
Chairman Fred Eulenkamp (pictured), managing director of Uniglobe Island Travel, said he had been trying to set up a special package with his insurance broker to solve the problem.
‘It is early days, but this is important because I don’t think many people know that their travel insurance excludes the UK,’ he said. ‘Everyone needs to look very carefully now at whether they will be fully insured.’
Often the section about the exclusion of cover in the UK is presented only as a detail, he said, because most travel insurance packages cater for people going further afield.
Businesses should follow suit, he said. ‘The same goes for companies who send people to the UK on business. They need to check their set-up has it in place too – I would hate for anybody to get caught out.’

Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
Clarification is needed as to exactly what will still be covered, e.g. will moving from an A & E department into a general ward start charges running?
With all the insurance expertise in Guernsey surely someone can come up with a policy that will cover just UK visits for ALL ages at a reasonable cost. I guess the incidence of claims would be very limited but that is little comfort to the individual who does fall ill.The States will be saving on not covering visitors to Guernsey who are taken ill and should sponsor sucn a policy.

i dont see why this agreement cant be revived with jersey and guernsey talking to the authorities in england,it is far better to have a reciprocal agreement between them both.what is the point in having an agreement with the isle of man when far fewer people go there than the uk.if everyone has to get insurance then the less well off have to pay for something they probaly wont use, and it is just a waste of money.there seems to be no political will among politcians in guernsey to save or have a new agreement.

The trouble is, this agreement is a done deal isn’t it? It is going to happen very shortly and there is nothing we can do about it. The States should be looking at the issues of insurance urgently. I don’t understand why we have lost the reciprocal health agreement with the UK – has the health department been in talks for months without the public knowing?
We are not officially part of the UK, yet most insurance clauses count the Channel islands as being part of the UK. What do our law officers make of that???

Our Government should never have allowed this situation to happen.
What has happened to the people of Guernsey – our rights under this change need to be challenged.
Tourism is an industry that should be one of many industries here in Guernsey, with insurance to find on top of fares and accommodation – do you really think people are going to come here?
But if those resident in Guernsey need to pay for this insurance what next? We are already excluded in many offers from companies in the UK.
OK so the business guests has it paid by its company – insurance is big business in Guernsey.
Think about it.
