Regretful Saints wonder what might have been

‘IF ONLY we were like this earlier on in the season.’

Those were the thoughts of stand-in coach Trevor Allan (pictured) and no doubt his Saints players after they destroyed Rangers on Saturday. Had they hit this rich vein of form a few months ago, then they would certainly not be 10 points off leaders Bels and North, but ahead of them.

But their assistant coach, in charge as Colin Fallaize is away on holiday, is not writing this season off yet.

‘I’m always the optimist,’ he said.

‘You never know, if we keep winning and the other results go our way. But you couldn’t criticise them for anything today.

‘It’s a pity we couldn’t have done it early on in the season.’

The words bumpy and St Andrew’s invariably go hand in hand when it is dry and both teams took their time getting used to the pitch with the ball continually bobbling off players’ feet.
