THE Guernsey Football Association is in serious danger of losing players to the social leagues.
That is the message coming from Division Two and the reason is because of a lack of games.
Following the creation of the new league in the GFA’s four-year plan to change the sport in the island, it sees teams play each other twice.
Coupled with the fact that GFA clubs’ members are not allowed to turn out in the breakaway social leagues – the Saturday League and the Sunday Soccer League – players such as Dan Smale are complaining that they are not getting enough football.
‘It’s a bit of a joke,’ said Smale.
‘We don’t play any football compared to what we used to. It makes you think if you’d rather go back to the Sunday and Business [now Saturday] Leagues.
‘And we can’t play five-a-side either.’
