THE first events of the 2009 NRG Series staged by the Beau Sejour Barracudas Swimming Club produced some exciting swimming and a host of personal best times.

The first championship record of the year went to 13-year-old Miles Munro in the 12-13 age group in the 50m butterfly, in which he had a great swim to touch in 31.61sec.

Lotte Parfit remained in top form, swimming the fastest time of the day in both the 50m backstroke and butterfly, recording 33.72 and 32.38 respectively.

The fastest of the men in the 50m butterfly was a powerful swim from Paul Adkins, who just took the touch from Ian Hubert in 27.62, while the fastest backstroke came from Jonathon Le Noury in 29.41.

Competing in the NRG Series for the first time were the Barracudas who will reach their ninth birthday during the year.

It was a promising start with Hannah Rosumek and Thomas Teasdale taking the honours in both events.

Rosumek’s time in the 50m backstroke was a personal best by over two seconds – 49.70.

There were several swimmers who gained double first places, including excellent swims from Victoria Symes and Alex Parfit in the 10-year age group.
