Day two of the championships was not a good one for the Sarnian contingent playing in the CI team, but Corbin is through to the last 16 of the women’s singles.

To reach there she defeated Leone Sweeney of Ireland 5-3.

Guernsey had further representation in the last 32 thanks to Lianna Priaulx.

She battled neck-and-neck with Ireland’s Louise Thompson in the early stages, but from 2-2 she pulled away to clinch the tie 5-3.

It was a pity that she then came up against former Irish champion Cathy Hunt and was despatched 5-2.

Earlier in the competition Rachel Chandler had lost 5-2 to Harri Shaw and there was no better news from the Sarnian men.

Miles Plumley enjoyed a regal battle with Scotland’s Richard Bruce before losing 6-5, while Robert Priaulx crashed 6-0 to Ireland’s Gavin Geraghty.
