Tomahawk dominates from start to complete hat-trick

0722166.jpgA RECORD number of yachts were at the start line in the Little Russel for race three in the Heritage Group Frostbite Series.

Organised by the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club, the two classes totalled 20 yachts, six cruisers and 14 racers.

The wind was a north-east at about force three and, with these light airs, a fairly calm sea and sunshine.

The start for both classes was from north to south – a spinnaker start for some – with the first mark Terres for the cruisers and Anfre for the racers.

Tomahawk (G. Wilson) made a cracking start, launching the spinnaker on the line and leading the fleet towards Terres Point.

Haven Gem (J. Squires) also hoisted his asymmetric spinnaker but was struggling to counteract the tide.

Newcomer to this series and single handed, Kreiz er Mor (R. Zabukovec) was over the line at the gun and had to return.

A straight forward race then, with Tomahawk crossing the finish in first place – making it three in a row – several minutes ahead of Kreiz er Mor, who would only make fourth on handicap.
