Thieves steal memories of cancer victim
Friday 20th February 2009, 2:30PM GMT.
Trevor, Richard and Jemma Bachmann.
A grieving husband’s irreplaceable photographs of his wife were stolen on the day after her funeral.
More than 200 images were on a laptop that was taken from a car parked in a private driveway in Grand Fort Road over the weekend.
Mother of two June Bachmann, 56, lost her battle with breast cancer on Thursday 5 February.
The pictures were part of a slide show stored on a silver Sony Vaio laptop belonging to a family friend. The images had been shown to friends and family at her wake on Friday.
Husband Richard, 54, said the family were frustrated and upset that someone could steal such precious memories.
‘This last week has been so emotional for all the family, making preparations for June’s funeral,’ he said.
‘A large amount of time was spent gathering photos of June from friends and family, telling June’s life from baby to adulthood.’ Many memories were encapsulated in the slideshow.
‘We managed to put together the show, showing friends, family holidays and fund-raising events close to our hearts.
‘It’s heartbreaking that all these memories have now gone with the laptop.’
Also taken from the car belonging to family friend Grant Hamilton were a black iPod Nano and black mirrored Oakley sunglasses.
- Mr Bachmann is offering a £100 reward for the return of the laptop or its hard drive.

These disgusting thieves should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. I have no doubt that they did know what was containes in the laptop. However now is the time that it is returned if they have any compassion about them at all.
The guilty culprit(s) are highly likely to be heroin addicts and the only compassion they feel is towards their next fix.
I do feel a lot of sympathy for the Bachmann’s. The lesson that must be learn’t from this is not to leave valuables in cars. This Island is far to trusting. We feel Guernsey is a better place than many with regard to crime.
Whilst this is the case in general. We have a large amount of zombie junkies that prey on peoples trust and ignorance so that they can support their sick filthy habits.
I blame, in part, our government. They treat them as sick and pull out all the stops when in reality all that is needed is the fact that they need to stop buying heroin. End of habit. End of the so called sickness. End of the prolific crime sprees.
Lock them up. Keep them locked up until they can be trusted to stay of the gear and also keep them on probation to test them a couple of times a week for illegal substances. If they test positive then simply bang them back up to give the general public a break from their dishonest scumbag ways.
A quick look around town is all that is needed to confirm that this Island has a massive junky culture. It is a shame that crimes of this nature is just a by product of their lifestyles. The public need to wise up. Our authorities also need to wise up!
Junkies don’t respond to sympathy. They play on it. They respond to cash and heroin and will stoop to any lengths to obtain both unfortunately.

‘A grieving husband’s irreplaceable photographs of his wife were stolen on the day after her funeral.’ To the thieves that did this, for chr!5t sake! I suspect you didn’t have any idea of the impact this would cause but for goodness sake hand this laptop back. There’s no coming back from this, no forgiveness for any of you if you do not do the right thing by this lady, a mother of two. For the good of the family please do the right thing.
