THE global economic crisis was the main topic at yesterday’s British-Irish Council summit.
Chief Minister Lyndon Trott represented Guernsey at the meeting, which included senior politicians including the Irish premier and first ministers of Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Deputy Trott said it was important to note the quality of the people around the table.
‘It’s arguably the most senior forum that the Channel Islands are represented at,’ he said.
‘It’s a marvellous opportunity for a small jurisdiction like ourselves to build relationships with these influential people.’
He said the environment, social inclusion, unemployment, consumer attitudes and confidence and house prices were among the items that were discussed by the delegates.
‘But the major issue we spoke about today was the state of the global economy, which was always going to be the key issue,’ he said.

Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
The Island is in a different league to all the others and thats for sure. It skanks its voting savers and turns its back on them in the hope that outsiders will see these actions as well considered? I very much doubt they will though!
It is time that they stopped chasing dreams and maybes and concentrated on the people that placed them in their positions.
It is the classic case of cheers for getting me to where I am. Sorry but I don’t need you any more. In fact I feel better than you now. So don’t darken me with your low presence again.
How rich are they then. Not for much longer hopefully!
