AN ARMY wife wants cheaper travel for servicemen and women – and their families – to visit Guernsey.

Former Ladies’ College student Siobhan Medhurst-Cocksworth lives in Bristol with children Patrick, 3, and Sorcha, 4, and Chris, her husband of 10 years who has served abroad for as long as seven months at a time.

She was disappointed that the airlines did not offer a discount.

‘I think it would be a nice goodwill gesture considering the island’s involvement with people in the military – to support them for putting their lives on the line.’

Neither Aurigny nor Blue Islands offer cheaper fares for servicemen and women.

Aurigny commercial director Malcolm Coupar (pictured) said: ‘Aurigny does not offer discounted flights to any particular category of traveller.

‘Our policy is to make our lowest fares available to everybody.’

Blue Islands declined to comment.

A spokesman for Flybe said the airline offered a corporate group rate for official armed forces travel but did not offer individual discounts.
