Georgina’s Gang
Monday 23rd February 2009, 9:59AM GMT.
GEORGINA’S GANG is the chosen name of the fund-raising appeal that has just been granted membership of the Association of Guernsey Charities.
Jessica picked the title and a pink logo has been designed by one of the fund-raising committee.
Pink is Georgina’s favourite colour and the design also incorporates her love of hats and sunglasses.
The dream is to raise enough to make part of the family house suitable for Georgina’s increasing needs.
Currently, its layout and steep stairs pose constant threats to her safety. The charity must raise £90,000 to pay for work to extend the ground floor and create a safer space complete with a specially designed wet-room, bedroom and area for essential equipment, such as a lift pulley and hoist – items that will become increasingly vital as Georgina’s condition progresses.
The couple say the States have offered them an interest-free loan for the alterations which fund-raisers are determined to help them repay.
Some local well-wishers have already started to bring some sunshine into Georgina’s world by organising fund-raising events, for which her parents are extremely grateful. She was also able to visit Lapland at Christmas thanks to the Starlight Foundation charity. Local fund-raisers, Lace, have also offered support. Meanwhile a pink-themed ball in aid of Georgina’s Gang is planned for March 27 at St Pierre Park Hotel.
Tickets are priced £40, including a three-course meal, jazz band and disco.
