NEW traffic calming measures near St Andrew’s School seemed to be working when the children returned after half-term.

The work to install the full-width table in St Andrew’s Road was completed on Friday.

Yesterday put the work to the test with traffic using the new filter at the end of L’Ecluse as well as the table.

School caretaker and lollipop man Stephen Le Prevost said that it was so far, so good.

‘They [drivers] seem to have taken very well to it,’ he said.

‘My thoughts are that there seems to be a bit of confusion at the moment over the filter. It seems to be a bit touch and go with some of the cars.

‘Some don’t expect to find it and others come up and go straight through as they can see it’s clear. But it’s still early days.’

Mr Le Prevost said he was expecting to see the pedestrian crossing operational today.

He had concerns with the new installation that motorists would speed up after the table and could knock down a child who ran across the road.
