Couple see UFO off Herm

Wednesday 25th February 2009, 2:28PM GMT.

0630070.jpgA UFO has been reported off Herm. A local man and his wife saw it as they stood at Castle Cornet .

The man, who has asked not to be named, said it moved too quickly to have been a commercial or private aircraft.

And he dismissed the idea that it was a satellite.

‘It didn’t look like anything I’d ever seen before. It was a strange thing to see – there was no sound and it was moving very fast,’ he said.

He had been standing on the Castle Emplacement on Sunday when a light attracted his attention at 6.40pm.

‘It was a luminous object which looked like it had flashing lights at different levels, but it could also have been two objects flying in close formation,’ he said.

‘The whole episode lasted for about five seconds maximum. We saw a conventional aircraft immediately afterwards in a different part of the sky and we both agreed that it was nothing like what we had first seen in terms of appearance or velocity.’

The object flew to the north of Herm and passed the east coast of Guernsey before disappearing from sight.

He said it had been flying level with their position. He said it could not have been a shooting star.

I reckon it could have been the after burn from depositors up-streaming their savings from Guernsey.

The message may have been something along the lines of UFO. But I suspect it is text language that has nothing to do with unidentified flying object.

Thanks for this posting, there is the possibility that it was two jets, the french milatry use that area from time to time but the speed might preclude this. I am actually doing a serious academic study on this and related subject with a university in the UK and would be interested to have email contact with the man who sited this object. GP please pass on my email address to this person if you wish. Thank you

UFOs (along with ghosts, magic, elves, Bigfoot and vampires) do not exist in the real world – stop being silly

Pleinmont you plonker, A UFO is an unidentified flying object! Doesn’t necessarily mean there are little green men in them! Of course they exist. It was something in the sky (flying) and he didn’t know what it was (unidentified) therefore it doesn’t take a genius to work out it was an Unidentified Flying Object or UFO?!?!

Ben, just because the chap saw something in the sky and didn’t know what it was doesn’t make it newsworthy!
By inference people associate UFO’s with something mysterious.

The Heyworths checking up on the new broom? The Barclays seeking to invade and expand their empire? Or a neat sales tactic to bring in hoards of UFO spotters from afar?!

UFO’s exist – I and a good mate of mine saw one, 1978 in the UK. It was only 4oo metres away so it could hardly have been a star, someones fire, an elf etc.

As for the description given I suspect it was Lyndon on his way to spend more funds on a new oil tanker…..

An asteroid just passed close so it was probably that. It was only about 60,000km away (the moon is about 370,000km).

This might have something to do with the perceived security threats to our CM!

Aliens are coming to abduct him.

“get on with it swiftly then”
