Is the States fit for purpose?

0564774.jpgA WIDE-RANGING independent review into whether the States is fit for purpose is on the way.

Although its scope has yet to be set, the assessment will cover both the political arm and the civil service and issues including leadership, openness and accountability, potentially dramatically changing the way the States operates.

The Wales Audit Office, which handled the Fallagate investigation, has been commissioned by the Public Accounts Committee to carry out this ‘good governance’ report.

Several other independent reports have already questioned the effectiveness of the current system.

‘We think this is one of the most important reviews we will be doing this term,’ said PAC chairman Leon Gallienne (pictured).

‘It runs parallel to the fundamental spending reviews and others. If the WAO think there’s an issue with departments or committees that need to be looked at more thoroughly, we can then put people in place to investigate. We’re 100% behind this review and it will be of great value to this island.’

The review is expected to look at boundaries between politicians’ work and that of the staff.

‘Everyone thinks that corporate governance is just financial, but it’s more thorough than that,’ said Deputy Gallienne.

Instead of wasting more public money Deputy Gallienne should ask the question of posters to Your Shout.

    Cheaper and far more effective.

Well I agree SJ, and like the previous report it will be dismissed and all findings swept under the carpet. And of course all this, including the Education budget tightening fiasco will take away the focus, and more importantly any debate over the really important topics like waste and sewage. And before any one thinks that I mean Education is not important, it is probably the most important gift we give our children, and one that Deputy Steere has demonstrated (many times) that the knows nothing about and only serves to highlight our deputies skill in “Seagull Management” (Fly in, Fly Around Poop everywhere and fly Off).

You know as well as many people know these people who try to tell us they know all about running things; sound (to me at least) very much like that old saying BULL…. baffles brains.

“Several other independent reports have already questioned the effectiveness of the current system.” – do our comments on Your Shout count as independent reports?
If so, where do I send the bill? :-)

Before any more expensive and time consuming reports are commissioned the States should commit to actually acting on these reports….usually they nod wisely and then dismiss it out of hand.
If there is no real desire for change why go through the charade?
Fallagate has already proven that our Turkeys will never vote for Christmas.

Not another inquiry. How much time and money are we to spend on others examining what we do then do nothing to change anything as a result.

Why do we elect Deputies? What are THEY doing to determine what we do, how we do it, then actually make sure it’s done. How much are Deputies costing us and what value are we getting for this?

Come on Deputies do whet we’ve elected you to do make decisions make them happen and stop asking others through inquiries etc to to make your decisions for you.
