0453085.jpgFEARS that competing in the Island Games this summer would cost Sarnians in excess of £1,000 each have been dispelled.

The Guernsey Island Games Association released the finalised figures this morning.

The GIGA have been organising the best travel and accommodation package available and have now confirmed that the cost to competitors who will be representing Guernsey is between £700-£880, depending on the sport’s location.

‘Members of the organising team have worked hard to get the best deal for the team in the light of present economic circumstances,’ said Denise Fawcett (pictured), chair of the GIGA organising committee.

Sarnian competitors will be flying direct from Guernsey to Aland and arriving a day ahead of the opening ceremony in good time to prepare for competition.

The NatWest Island Games XIII in Aland will be the largest in Island Games history, starting on Saturday 27 June and running through until Friday 4 July.

‘The Guernsey team is proud to have taken part in all the Island Games and yet again are expected to be high on the medal table,’ Fawcett said.
