Old ‘Tics’ and Cents stars made their mark too
Saturday 28th February 2009, 9:29AM GMT.
Last men standing: Athletics before their very last game, the Jeremie Cup final of 1963. Back row, left to right – John Rowlinson, Roy Queripel, Jock Tanguy, Barry Bishop, Mick Wylie, Reuben Le Poidevin; front – Don Batiste, Dick Irvine, Richard Harvey, Allan Hamon and Micky Mechem. (62806)
TO MOST islanders they are just names in a GFA handbook.
But Centrals, Athletics and Les Vauxbelets Old Boys had their moments.
Very good players appeared in their colours but because they have featured in other Best XIs or have been primarily linked to another club, they have not found their way into today’s selections.

Richard Harvey, along with Colin Renouf probably the most versatile footballer the island has produced, wore the Centrals shirt 23 times, the Tics one 87 times.

Colin Hargreaves was superb in Centrals colours, but after one full season at St Andrew’s he escaped to become a Vale legend, while Marcus Le Tissier has already won selection in Bels’ Best XI so cannot be considered a second time around.
As Art Le Page only made the Vale bench we have bent the rules to allow him to take his place in the Centrals XI – after all, that is where he played some of his finest football.
