League to go down to wire
Monday 2nd March 2009, 2:30PM GMT.
MARK Tuesday 10 March down in your diary.
That is when the top two collide for the third and final time – barring a play-off – in Sure Senior County Division One this season. And it should be a humdinger of a Priaulx title-decider.
There are important fixtures for both Bels and North coming up on Saturday, away to St Martin’s and Rovers respectively, but whatever the results of those games the title rivals will have all to play for when they meet again.
North ensured as much with a fully deserved, if somewhat surprising, 4-1 win at the Track on Saturday to take them level with the champions on 38 points.
A buzzing Mick Le Prevost (pictured) could not hide his delight at how well his tactics to have Glyn Dyer roaming with a three-man midfield worked.
‘I have been thinking about it for a few weeks and I told the boys in training, “trust me on this – if you work hard and do what I ask you to do, we will win this game”,’ the North coach said.
‘We played in a way I knew we could, but I did not expect them to play that well. The hunger was there throughout the week, they really wanted this and I am just really pleased for them.’
Simon Tostevin scored North’s first and last goals, sandwiching an own goal from Joby Bourgaize and a Craig Young strike. An unfortunate Steve Ozanne put through his own net for the Bels goal.
‘We have been doing extra training and it showed today – we never held back,’ said Le Prevost. ‘This was a massive game – lose and we would have had to rely on someone else to do us a favour and I didn’t want that. This puts us in a good position.’
